In her freshman year of high school, Jennifer Murphy joined the Brattleboro Union High School Cross Country track team. Her first race she place a surprising 6th place. She went on to have a tremendous season. After finishing 12th in the state meet, she qualified for Southern Vermont League. "We're being realistic for Jenn," said Coach Dimick. "She's a low seed and she's only a freshman. "She's just running for the experience." On Saturday, November 9th, 1991, she ran... And she won. It was her 15th birthday. Jenn qualified to run in the New Englands. "Brattleboro's lone runner, freshman Jenn Murphy, ran a fine race." "I felt pretty good," Murphy said, "At the start there were so many people, it seem like I was in last place. But I felt my pace was pretty good and I caught a lot of people at the end on the down hills." Jenn finished 106th out of 200 in New England" "The leader's not [coming] back and under tragic circumstances. Everything we do reminds us... of that she accomplished... and we don't want to forget what she did." -- Coach Dimick The Jenn Murphy Scholarship was created in her name to assist and inspire the generations to come. After 28 years, the well has run dry, and we are asking for your help, to keep it going. If you are able to donate, anything helps!!!!!! Or please SHARE!!! Many, many thanks.
