This year, in 2022, the Jenn Murphy Scholarships will once again be awarded to THREE creative, hard-working, civic-minded, talented, super amazing Brattleboro Union High School Seniors!
BUHS seniors that are excelling in extra-curricular activities, maintaining good grades, and are 'living in the spirit of Jenn" (ie: living outside of themselves) are encouraged to apply by May 1, 2022 here on the website. The 2022 Jenn Murphy Scholarship recipients will be announced online and at the 2022 BUHS graduation. Checks will be awarded to the recipients this summer.
Jenn poured her heart into her chosen extracurricular activities while maintaining her grades, staying on the honor roll. Jenn was also a civic-minded humanitarian and was an active member of several groups, including Amnesty International, Animal Rights, and Students for Global Concerns. We are looking for Brattleboro Union High School seniors that emulate this same energy and 'spirit of Jenn'. If this is you, and you need help financially for college, we encourage you to apply! Once again, the deadline is May 1st, 2022. Good luck CLASS OF 2022!
HISTORY &
PAST RECIPIENTS
Friends of Jenn and the BUHS Student Council after she passed, fundraised and were matched by the Thompson Trust Foundation in Brattleboro, and so the scholarship in her name was born. Originally, it was called the 'Jennifer Murphy Scholarship. The first ever Jennifer Murphy Scholarship was presented at graduation for the class of 1995, which would have been Jenn's graduating class. It was presented to Thomas "Tommy" Lewis.
Over time, the financial well for the scholarship ran dry, however with the help and support of BUHS retired teacher and coach, Sherryl Libardoni, (who also helped with the same group twenty-five years ago through the Student Council), the second round of fundraising for the ‘Jenn Murphy Scholarship’ began on Jenn's birthday, November 9th, 2020.
So, after 25 years, a new effort to replenish the funds for future generations, and thus the decision was made to rename it simply, "Jenn," (which is closer to "Dude," or "Money" other nicknames), thus, in the spirit of really getting to know this really cool dude, 'Jenn', it is now the "Jenn Murphy Scholarship." Here are some of the past recipients of the original Jennifer Murphy Scholarship:
